Imagining
Before designing, this phase focuses on analyzing the land's existing conditions and visual assets or eyesores. With the site understood, you define the garden's functional purpose and establish its aesthetic style, whether that means a sleek modern layout or a resilient Mediterranean matrix.
Structuring
To translate the creative vision into a precise reality, you develop scaled master plans and detailed planting blueprints that specify the exact botanical names, quantities, and installation sizes for every plant. These documents are paired with critical grading, drainage, lighting, and zoned irrigation schematics to ensure proper water management and functional infrastructure across the site.
Creating
This phase translates abstract ideas into spatial relationships by using bubble diagrams to map out functional zones, circulation pathways, and room transitions without focusing on specific plants. From there, you lock in the hardscape boundaries to create the structural backbone of the garden before layering in trees and large shrubs to establish the vertical scale, shade, and sightlines.
Implementing
This final phase brings the drawings to life by clearing the site, burying utilities, and completing heavy hardscape construction before restoring the compacted soil with organic amendments to revive its biology. Once the ground is prepared, plants are physically staged on-site to verify layout before being planted, mulched, and managed under a strict watering schedule for deep root establishment.
Refining
This phase shifts the focus to botanical architecture and ecology by organizing the planting scheme into vertical, natural tiers that mimic local ecosystems to conserve moisture and suppress weeds. You then select a resilient horticultural palette of native or highly adapted species, balancing striking architectural focal points with a continuous sequence of seasonal blooms to ensure year-round visual interest.
