The Mesopotamians were also among the first to utilize various types of trees, not only ornamental, but also fruit-bearing. Orchards had a hierarchical layout. They consisted of: the top layer, where date palms were cultivated, the middle part included various types of fruit trees, and the lowest layer was meant for growing vegetables. In Mesopotamia, the Euphrates River played a crucial role. It was occasionally flooding and left essential for healthy vegetation growth. It is of great significance to mention that once Egypt was considered to be the oldest civilization, but since then time had passed and archaeologists have discovered new proofs of the existence of agriculture in Greece on the island of Crete 2000 years before Egypt, which presumably came from the west of Asia.
